New book I bought this month!!
It’s been a while since I last wrote. This month I’ve been quite busy! It’s probably also the month where I bought a lot of books. I visited this year’s IIBF (Indonesia International Book Fair) and came home with a bunch, ordered some online through Shopee during the recent Semesta Buku promotion, and visited my local bookstore too!
Now let’s see what kinds of books I bought.
These are the nonfiction books I got at IIBF, and I happened to find them at the Waterlily section. I’m so glad I did! I’ve been interested in Angela Davis’s politics for a while, and the title of the Slavoj Žižek book sounded interesting enough that I decided to buy it.
I also got these Mishima Yukio book at IIBF, and I grabbed them immediately. Original editions of Mishima are very hard to find in Indonesia, and I’ve always wanted to read his work, so I’m thrilled!
I bought the Arthur Conan Doyle and V for Vendetta at my local bookstore. I’ve only recently gotten into the mystery and detective genre, so I thought I should read the foundation of it all, the Sherlock Holmes.
V for Vendetta is probably the first Western comic I’ve ever bought, since I usually buy manga. I liked the movie as a teen but have forgotten most of it, so I want to compare it with the original comic. I’ll probably rewatch the movie after I finish reading, since I loved it back when I was an impressionable teenager. Plus, there are more Alan Moore works to collect!
This is the first time I’ve bought fiction by an Indonesian author. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Intan Paramaditha, and the cover intrigued me. I’m also in need of some Indonesian horror fiction. Atheis will be the first Indonesian classic I read, and I bought it at the Balai Pustaka booth at IIBF. (Please support BP and promote their books! They really need it, and we mustn’t let Indonesian classics fall into obscurity.) I can’t wait to read it.
I bought a lot of J-lit during the Semesta Buku promotion on Shopee because I’ve been hungry for more Japanese literature! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Keigo Higashino, so why not? Strange Houses by Uketsu sounds interesting from the premise alone, and so does Confessions by Minato Kanae. I really love J-lit. It’s light to read, and I can finish a book in around 1 to 3 days, lol.
I still haven’t finished Frankenstein, but I’m in the mood to buy more gothic horror. Right now my bookstore only has the classics, but hey, at least I got an Edgar Allan Poe book! If I have more money later, I’d like to buy Carmilla too, hehehe.
Lastly, I bought another expensive book at Periplus, because I wanted to try contemporary Western mystery fiction. I picked up a Dan Brown book since I’ve heard so many good things about him. I can’t wait to read it!
I think I bought a lot of books this month, and hopefully they’ll last me until the end of the year! Not to mention I still have so many unfinished books to read, LOL.
